Razor Burns: A Complete Guide

The best type of cure for a razor burn is its prevention but in case these irritating red bumps still appear, they can be concealed and treated easily.

Shaving is something that most of the people cannot avoid. Women want smooth under arms and legs and same goes for men, they want trimmed beards or clean shaved face. Razor burn is something that almost everyone who shaves must have experienced sometime or other in life. However, several steps can be taken to prevent the appearance of razor burn than to wait for it to heal.

Preventing Razor Burn

A lot can be done to prevent razor burns. These steps should be taken while you're shaving and after you have shaved.

While you shave, make sure that you use a sharp and clean razor. This is because a dull razor blade can pull the hair out instead of sharply cutting it. This may cause irritation on skin, causing red bumps. Also apply shaving cream or gel only on warm and wet skin. If you shave dry, you will end up sloughing up the uppermost layer of epidermis, inducing skin irritation. Also when you apply shaving cream or gel, allow it to set on your skin for more than 30 seconds before you actually shave. The gel or cream will soften the beard and skin, making shaving effective and easier for you.

After you have shaved the beard, apply a razor burn ointment or aloe-vera lotion on your skin. This will reduce any chances of razor burn. Additionally, an ointment or lotion will also keep the skin soft, keeping skin irritation at bay.

Covering Razor Bumps

In case razor bumps have appeared and you have to appear somewhere socially, you can camouflage them easily. Razor bumps can be unsightly and by covering them you will also prevent further skin irritation. For concealing razor bumps, you can wear long socks, thick colored tights or pants on legs. If razor bumps are present on the armpits, a long- sleeved shirt can provide a good cover. Razor burn on neck or face can be difficult to cover, but still you can wear a collared shirt or a scarf around the face to conceal the razor burn. In certain cases, healing ointment or tinted concealer can also be worn.

Razor Burn Treatment

One of the best treatments for razor burn is to let it heal on its own. However, shaving over the razor bumps can cause further irritation and pain. Keeping that in mind, you can follow below written treatments that can help the bumps disappear faster.

•    Aloe-vera can greatly help in reducing and healing the red Bumps that are caused due to razor burn. Aloe-vera will also soothe the razor burn.

•    Razor burn ointments are available over-the-counter and can help in fast healing of the razor burn.

•    You can also place a washcloth that has been soaked in ice-cold water over the red bumps. This will not only reduce itching and redness, it will also soothe the burn.

Razor burn it is a very common problem for people who shave. Hope, the above written information will help you avoid or deal with the irritation that razor burn accompanies.
