Baking soda, a simple ingredient which we often use to raise dough, make cookies and bake cakes, can work wonders. Very few people know that this non toxic, inexpensive ingredient can be used for many purposes. It can be used for cleaning, deodorizing, as well as for personal care.
Polish Silver items
Make paste using 3 tablespoon baking soda and 1 tablespoon water. Rub this paste on silver items using a piece of cloth or sponge. Wash thoroughly to get sparkling clean silver items.
Clean surface
Clean your bathroom tiles, tubs, glass tiles, sinks or fiber glass with baking soda. Scrub the surface thoroughly after sprinkling little soda with the help damp cloth, sponge or scrubber. To make the cleaning more effective, you can make a paste mixing detergent and coarse salt along with baking soda.
Clean Microwave
Cleaning the microwave from inside and outside using baking soda can help to remove all the oil and grease spots and all the smell will be gone. Wipe with moist cloth thoroughly. For cleaning oven, sprinkle some baking soda powder on the bottom and spray little water to dampen and leave it overnight. In the morning, scrub with a sponge and clean with a damp piece of cloth.
Clean utensils, plates and pots
To cut grease from pots and pans, mix spoonfuls of baking soda with regular detergent; and with the help of scrubber or sponge, clean them. Rinse it thoroughly.
Remove stains
Remove stains from discolored tea and coffee mugs, clean coffee makers and teapots, and get rid of bitter taste and smell by cleaning them with a paste made of baking soda and water. If the stains are stubborn, soak them in a solution of baking soda and detergent overnight and clean them next day with the help of a scrubber. Freshen and disinfect scrubber and sponge and get rid of dirt and stale smell by soaking them for few hours in hot soda solution.
Floor cleaning
For a sparkling clean tile floor, mix 4 tablespoons baking soda in a bucket of warm water and mop the floor and rinse. For oil and grease spills in your garage or kitchen floor, sprinkle baking soda on the spot ad scrub with a hard and wet brush.
Car cleaning
You can very well eliminate odors from car seats and carpets by sprinkling baking soda on them. Wait for a few minutes and vacuum them up. You can clean car lights, windows, tires, floor mats with warm baking soda solution.
Clean shower curtains, furniture, carpets, crayon or any other marks from your walls using baking soda by sprinkling the powder on a soft wet brush. Later wipe with a cloth.
Allow laundry detergents to work harder by adding baking soda and get clean, fresh and germ-free clothes; particularly in case of towels and gym clothes.
Baking Soda for Personal Care

Use baking soda as an alternative to tooth paste and get sparkling clean teeth. Use baking soda paste as a body exfoliator and facial scrub. To neutralize body odor, pat some baking soda powder on underarms. Rinse your mouth by mixing one teaspoon baking soda in half glass of water. It will freshen and neutralize our mouth. Besides this, baking soda is a good antacid for heart burn and acidity. It can ease itchy skin as well.
Deodorize
For deodorizing refrigerators, trashcans, and dish washers, baking soda is a very good option.
